When the school day ends, children are bound to feel their stomachs rumble while heading home on the school bus or before their extracurricular activities. Already hungry from their lunch several hours before, the trick is to give your kids after-school snacks that are hearty enough to satisfy their cravings but still leaves plenty of room for dinner.
If you have kids, you probably have similar struggles as many other families—including getting your kids involved in meal and snack prep. Ideally they’re not only involved, but also comfortable and excited to help in the kitchen. We’re here to tell you that the struggles are worth the outcome because cooking with your children can be one of the best ways to bond, and it is definitely a fun time for all!
With the kids heading back to school, we can’t help but reminisce about when we were all in school (many years ago)… The Easy Home Meals team shares their own back-to-school memories and go-to breakfasts and snacks!
Two words that drive parents crazy, particularly in summer and especially August, are “I’m bored!” That’s because August is packed with fun things to do before school starts up. From quirky food observances—National Banana Split Day is August 25th—to local fairs, carnivals and the possible road trip, a family on the verge of bored could get very creative.
With Back-to-School commercials and sales coming at us from every angle, it’s time to admit summer is coming to a close. Whether that makes you thrilled or heartbroken, don’t let these last few weeks slip by without getting friends, neighbors and family together for one last shindig. And really, what better way to say goodbye to summer than with a Block Party?!
Whether you’re a teenager, a mom of three kids or a single adult living by yourself, the relationship between time and food is always the same. We always seem to have less and less time to spend prepping and cooking meals, even though we care deeply about the food we eat. This is where two key strategies come into play: meal prepping and stocking your fridge/freezer.
We’re happy to welcome back our Cool Food Panelist, Katie Workman as she arms us with kid-friendly recipes and ideas that are perfect for the Back to School season!
Sandwiches are classic, versatile and outrageously delicious. Lucky for us, August is National Sandwich Month and National Panini Month, and we are excited to celebrate! It’s said that people in the U.S. eat an estimated 300 million sandwiches every day. That’s one for every single American! It’s a heck of a lot of sandwiches, but Americans are onto something here, since nothing can compare to taking a big bite out of your favorite sandwich.
The next few weeks are prime time vacation weeks for most American families (before the kiddos head back to school). And many top vacation destinations involve water, sand, lake homes, beach homes, tents, campers, boats…and lots of food! Today we are taking a deeper dive into food—particularly snacking—on these treasured summer family vacations (or even “staycations”).
